Nature conveys volume and depth differently than photographs. In real life, a three-dimensional effect isn’t always caused by a strong light source. For example, foliage lacks a clear front and side unless the sun is perfectly positioned when you take the photo. But since paintings and photos are confined to flat surfaces, we artists must rely on visual techniques to suggest depth and volume—often more than what’s naturally seen outdoors or in photos.
In this YouTube presentation, Master Johannes Vloothuis will show you exactly how and where to render 3D form in your landscapes to make them pop. You’ll gain essential tools to make your paintings more compelling—so viewers feel like they can step right into the scene.
Free 60 minute session held on September 5, 2025 at 3 pm EST.
