this episode is Part of the Drawing Together live video series – learn more here
Hats off to you for making dark situations lighter! Today’s subject is one of my favorite hats, and the challenge will be to draw in “reverse”, with white chalk on black paper. This should prove to be a good lesson on value. Grab your own hat, or follow along using this reference image: https://bit.ly/33NiwSS
Today, I’m working with:
- Black drawing paper
- White Chalk Pencil
- Charcoal Pencil
- Kneaded and Rubber Erasers

I used gray paper with the hat
Here’s my hat on gray paper with white charcoal and gray pastels. I didn’t have any black paper. Came out fairly ok.
I used very dark grey paper and had so much fun!
I think mine wanted to be a cowboy hat.
I LOVED doing the hat. I liked it and I love working on black paper!
First time I worked with white charcoal on black paper. Fun!
