I’m going back through previous classes and enjoying them as new challenges. This is my first portrait, and it was difficult. I have new respect for portrait painters!
I decided to draw from a picture I had instead of doing an unknown. I think drawing someone you actually know is more of a challenge. So I drew along listening to your advice on placement, shadowing etc knowing I had to be careful to keep it light on a child so as not to age her. Also I chose a ‘no teeth’ picture as recommended. I believe I nailed it! I drew this with the live show and was able to ask questions, that helped. Thanks for the insights.
Here’s my version of the Girl. Just wanted to comment: your portrait should be narrower around the jawline. Even though there is a squareness to her jaw her face is more heart-shaped. I’m really enjoying Drawing Together!
love this picture hi my name is asia and im 13 years old and want to make a art bissness im new to this website and love your work already keep on
Challenging but fun…thank you!
This girl was deceivingly difficult to capture! Still think it’s not quite right but I tried. Had some blending issues with my paper for some reason.
I think I’ve reached the point where I just have to let it be A person rather than THE person, as Scott likes to say. I used graphite pencils for this one.
I have learned so much.I appreciate your knowledge and desire to teach.
Thanks so much!
Vickie Gann
Hi Scott,
Loving your classes, don’t know if she looks like the picture but definitely looks like a female.
I’m so glad to hear it, Deborah! Thank you for sharing this. Your drawing looks great!
Beautiful work, Mary Jo. Thank you for sharing your comments. It’s great to hear you are enjoying these sessions!
This looks great, Giselle! Thank you for posting this and for watching!
Wonderful work, Arlene!
Here’s my attempt at the girl drawing. 8 x 10 Strathmore Heavyweight Drawing Paper using 6B Staedtler graphite pencil
Here is my portrait of a girl. Didn’t quite get the slight turn of the face but will keep at it. Thanks Scott for your generosity and your encouragement.
Thanks so much for these classes, Scott; after not drawing for 40 years, I’m pretty rusty but I’m having a lot of fun getting back to it!
Thanks so much for giving these classes, I am learning so much!
I followed a few of your drawing classes and I took your perspective class earlier this year.
Here is the “let’s face it” drawing.
