Course Overview

What are the most important skills you need to get started painting in oils? This course answers this question by introducing you to:

• The most basic painting materials so you can choose the right paint colors, brushes and mediums to get you started.
• Color wheel essentials and basic color theory, helping you to use color in a powerful way to creating strong paintings.
• You will learn to avoid common pitfalls that even experienced painters struggle with.
• The power of proper value control and avoiding the ?mid-value? crisis, where values are too similar in lightness and darkness, causing paintings to appear flat, confusing, and lacking in convincing space.
• The proper way hold a brush and skills to gain control for confident stroke attack.
• Approaches to creating dynamic compositions
• Strategies for experimenting with color to explore new methods for expression

This course is offered “On Demand” and has no instructor attached to provide feedback on assignments or participate in discussion. You will have access to discussion boards and gallery, where you can share work and ideas with other students in the community. Come join the fun!
